If you usually browse or download files from Internetyou must be very careful, because your computer could be infected with some virus, malware or other malicious program. To avoid future problems, experts in cyber security They recommend having a good antivirus installed, whether free or paid. Is installing two better?
Because paid antiviruses sometimes detect more viruses than free ones, some people often install two (or even more) because they think their PCs or laptops will be better protected that way. How true is that?

To answer this question, La República contacted Kaspersky Y ESET, two famous cybersecurity companies. His experts agreed that having two antiviruses running simultaneously on one computer is not a recommended practice.
“Two antiviruses installed on the same computer cannot work simultaneously for purely technical reasons, even if they are manufactured by the same company. It is a bad practice in cybersecurity issues and it is not recommended, ”said Carolina Mojica, manager of Kaspersky.
“Each will seek to gain control of a long list of operations: establishing the network connection, writing files, and thus ‘fighting’ over Windows functions get in each other’s way.” added the spokeswoman.
As Mojica explained, these solutions can conflict and alert about false positives of threats. Believe it or not, it is common for antivirus “A” to detect infected files in antivirus B that was developed by its competitor.
“It’s not on purpose. This is because the use of any antivirus entails a lot of “suspicious” activities (from the point of view of other antiviruses), such as the control of other applications,” said the Kaspersky representative.

For his part, Leandro González, Product Manager of ESET Latin America, explained that having two antiviruses on your computer does not raise security levels, on the contrary, they decrease, since both solutions could block each other.
“The way security solutions work, they are likely to detect each other as suspicious tools due to the actions they take within the system. They could even block each other, which would clearly affect the security of the computer”, he maintained.
The specialists consulted agreed that having two antiviruses running at the same time greatly affects the performance of your computer. According to the Kaspersky spokeswoman, it will make simple tasks, such as opening programs, take too long.
The ESET representative, for his part, also agrees on this point. “By having two security solutions running, they could be scanning each other repeatedly. This would generate an excessive consumption of resources, affecting the performance of the equipment”, he indicated.
