Installing an antivirus is extremely important, as it prevents your computer from being infected with a Trojan, virus, malware, among other malicious code. Although the most famous are those created by Kaspersky, avast, ESET, among others, the truth is that there was a very famous one that was created by Peruvians. We refer to the remembered per antivirus. What happened to him? Here we tell you the story of him.
The person behind the success of Per Antivirus was Jorge Machado La Torre, a Peruvian engineer who worked developing applications for computers. In 1993, he founded the well-remembered Per Systems company which, in 2000, won the “Small Business and Micro-Business Creativity” award for its famous antivirus.

How was Per Antivirus?
per antivirus He had several performances. There was a domestic version (on floppy disks) that cost less than S/ 20.00 and that you could install on a single computer. There were also slightly more expensive versions, which came on a CD that could be used on multiple computers.
One of the most representative features of per antivirus it was its cover that had as its protagonist a man in inspector’s attire who carried a flashlight in his right hand in search of a virus. In the Linux version, this character was accompanied by a penguin on his shoulder.
Like the most famous antiviruses, it had a database of different viruses, which was updated periodically. Although the download of the ‘update’ was through the Internet, there was the possibility of downloading it on a floppy disk and installing it on a computer that did not have a connection.

Although for many Peruvians it was a very good antivirus, there are many users who have expressed their discontent with this extinct software. This is due to the fact that, on certain occasions, it did not detect the presence of a virus, which was eliminated by other programs such as Kaspersky, Avast, Nod 32, among others.
“Per Antivirus is useless, it is not capable of detecting, much less eliminating the vast majority of computer viruses, created from 2005 onwards. It can only detect and remove very, very old computer viruses,” said user Jperezmo on the www.apestan.com portal.
After the death of its founder, in June 2009, the popularity of Per Antivirus was declining in the face of its great competition. According to the Data Peru portal, the Peruvian company Per System was discharged on January 31, 2014.
