What is OBS?
According to its official website, it is described as a program that was created for the field of video games, in order to be able to broadcast gameplays. However, today it has several useful features for both live streaming and recording content.
Basically, it consists of software that allows you to broadcast live what is displayed on the computer monitor, which can be linked to the main social networks and platforms on the market.
How to use it?
Through the platform offered by OBS, we will have at our disposal different functions and key sections to be able to execute our stream. To effectively use the program, you must dock the most important sections. Below we will explain what each one is for.
- scenes: This section is where we will organize all the elements that we extract from our internal files and applications, so that they can later be transmitted on the main screen. Practically, it is the origin of our content.
- Sources: Basically, it is the part where what should be captured on the screen is indicated, be it our desktop, the webcam, a program, etc.
- Mixer: It gives the option of being able to configure the audio input, either internal, that is, the computer’s own, as well as external, in case we are using a microphone.
- Transitions: This section is used to make a change or sequence of images, but in a ‘smooth’ way, so that you go from one scene to another with a personalized style. The function allows adjusting the duration time, as well as editing it.
- Broadcast Options: through the study mode, as we mentioned previously, you can start a recording or retransmission of the content that we have on our PC, for example, showing our screen, a specific application, the camera, and more options that depend on the user imagination.
- Recording time: In the lower right there is a clock that shows us the time we are going live, as well as the CPU workload.
Where can I download it?
Its download is free and quite simple, since you only have to go to the official OBS Project page or search for Open Broadcaster Software in Google, where the link to download it will appear as the first result. On the web there are two options for the computer, depending on whether you have chosen the Windows, Linux or Mac operating system.
The two versions that can be downloaded are the following:
- OBS Classic: the first version that went on the market and that is only available for Windows.
- OBS Studio: the most updated version has much more advanced features and functionality such as the ability to insert plugins. This version is available for the 3 platforms mentioned above (Linux, Windows and Mac).
