Why does closing the laptop lid suspend or shut down? This occurs due to the parameters configured in the operating system for energy saving, to avoid unnecessary wear and tear on the equipment and take care of the health of your laptop’s battery.
Perhaps because of your work or other reasons, you need your computer not to sleep or shut down when you close the screen. Many times tasks can be carried out without using the screen, but we do need our laptop to remain active.

How to prevent my laptop from shutting down or suspending when I close the lid?
If you don’t want your laptop to sleep or turn off when you close the lid, you should know that you don’t need to install any strange programs, as you can do it from the Windows Control Panel settings. You just have to follow the following instructions:
- Access the Control Panel of Windows
- Go to Hardware and Sound
- Open Power Options. You will see a window with several and in addition to the left side of the screen you will find different menus
- Opens the Choose Lid Closing Behavior menu
- Click on When I close the lid and the options menu will open, from there choose what you want to happen when the device is using the battery. The default option is ‘Suspend’, but you can change it to something else if you wish. You can choose between Hibernate, Shutdown and Do nothing.
- Go back to the When I close the lid option and choose what you want to happen when the computer is connected to power: Sleep, Hibernate, Shut down, Do nothing. If you click the ‘Do nothing’ option, the computer will not sleep or shut down when you close the lid.
- Click on the Save changes button and, automatically, the new settings will be saved

How to block the upgrade to Windows 11
Although Windows 11 represents an evolutionary step in the graphic and structural layout of desktop operating systems, there are still many who refuse to believe it is necessary, at least in its current state.
If you are one of those who wants to stay even longer in Windows 10 and you want to avoid any incident that upgrades your PC to Windows 11, you can use this trick:
- Press the Windows + R keys on the desktop to access the Run command.
- In the blank space, type “regedit” (without quotes).
- In the resulting window, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Policies/Microsoft/Windows/Windows Update.
- In the right part of the window, right-click and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Then assign it a value of 1.
- In the same window, right-click and select New > String Value. Name it: “TargetReleaseVersionInfo” (without quotes) and as value put “21H1″ (also without quotes).
- You will see three items created in the window. Close the editor and restart your PC.
- Done, now any upgrade to any later version of Windows will be automatically blocked.
