One of the most criticized elements of security in technology is passwords, a method that is constantly being displaced in favor of other services such as two-step verification. In that sense, NordPass published the list of the 200 least secure passwords of 2021.
The list details which are the most used passwords and which are easier to crack. It is important to mention that today there are thousands of ways to guess passwords through data processing, and there are not a few cybercriminals who master advanced techniques to unravel insecure passwords.
If you use any of the 5 least secure passwords on the list, you should change them immediately. Especially if you use the same password for several services, in which case you are exposed to cyberattacks and data theft on those platforms.

The most vulnerable passwords
The list prepared by the firm NordPass was carried out in collaboration with investigators specialized in cybersecurity incidents. The data was classified creating a statistical analysis based on countries and gender.
Data was covered from approximately 50 countries and a database of 4 TBs was analyzed. In this way, a list of 200 passwords was obtained, divided from least to most secure, and the count of times used and time to figure them out. These are the most insecure passwords of all:
- 123456
- 123456789
- 12345
- QWERTY
- password

Additionally, known passwords are included, such as “12345678″, “111111″ or “1234567890″. As you can see, they are the most common key combinations. In addition, these have a common pattern: they are short and easy to introduce.
It should also be noted that the 200 passwords are not very secure because they are common. In fact, none of them are difficult to crack, because practically all of them cost between less than a second or two to be figured out.
