Without a doubt, the metaverse announced by Mark Zuckerberg is shaping up to be one of the main technological, commercial and even social revolutions of the 21st century. The possibilities to sell and offer goods (including digital ones such as NFTs) are almost endless, and companies such as Facebook, Google and Manzana they are making preparations to make their platforms the most attractive, not only for users, but also for developers.
One of the most crucial concerns that exists right now in the metaverse refers to how much commission companies (such as Meta) will charge for each purchase or transaction made within their platforms. In the case of the company mark zuckerbergthe percentage has already been announced, at least for Horizon Worlds (his virtual reality game), and it must be said that the decision has surprised many.

Facebook will take almost half of every purchase in its metaverse
A spokesperson for the company has revealed (in statements to CNBC) that Meta plans to keep almost 50% of all revenue generated by purchases made within the virtual world. This includes not only Horizon Worldsbut also to the sales of Meta Quest Store.
In this way, Facebook will take a total of 47.5% by right of “hardware platform fee”. A 30% will be applied to the sales of the Meta Quest Store, and 17.5% to the transactions made for acquire NFTs (and other assets) in Horizon Worlds.
The fact has not gone unnoticed in many community forums, especially due to recent reports that the Meta Quest Store has recorded sales exceeding one billion dollars.
They criticized those who charged less
Many users have also not forgotten the words that Mark Zuckerberg himself had for other platforms, especially regarding the percentages they charged. Just a few months ago, the CEO himself stated that its metaverse would be the escape for many of the high rates of Apple and Google on the App Store and Play Store, respectively.
“The 30% fees that Apple takes from transactions make it harder to make a profit,” he said in August 2020. “That’s why we’re updating our subscriptions product so creators can earn more.”
Apple and Google do the opposite
The curious thing about all this is that both Apple and Google have taken recent measures that really benefit their creators, especially those with lower earnings. In Cupertino they have already decided to get rid of commissions for reading apps (comics, series, movies, etc), while in Mountain View they have decided to lower their rate to 15% for most apps that attend their first year.
What are Horizon Worlds and Meta Quest Score?
Although linked, both platforms are different from each other. Horizon Worlds is the virtual reality game where millions of people will be able to acquire digital goods both for their avatars and for other activities (mostly NFTs), while the Meta Quest Store contains the complete catalog of apps and experiences for those who have glasses VR like oculus quest.
