The origin of the emoji
According to some publications, emojis date back to the year 1982, when Scott Elliot Fahlman proposed the symbol “:-)” to be used as a ‘joke mark’ in a message sent digitally. However, other sources claim that it was the Japanese Shigetaka Kurita who commissioned the creation of emoticons in 1999 to the telecommunications company NTT DoCoMo in order to save space in emails.
